January 23, 2026 | Cowboy Wrestling
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 5 Oklahoma State wrestling team defeated No. 18 Missouri, 33-3, on Friday night at the Hearnes Center.
The win improves Oklahoma State to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big 12, while the loss drops the Tigers to 8-7 on the year and 2-2 in the conference. The Cowboys won nine of 10 bouts, with Troy Spratley, Jax Forrest and Sergio Vega picking up bonus points.
"I think we're doing some really good stuff," head coach David Taylor said. "We just have to keep getting better. We have a young team, so we're still working through some things… We're excited to get back and get ready for our doubleheader next weekend. Overall, I'm pretty happy with these guys. We just have to find a way to keep getting better."
The Cowboys did not allow a takedown in nine of the 10 bouts and have surrendered only one takedown over the past 22 dual bouts, dating back OSU's December 21 matchup at Nebraska.
True freshman No. 2 Vega (141) improved to 10-0 in his collegiate career after his first-period pin against Easton Hilton. Vega is tied for the team lead in ranked (6) and total wins (10) and is second on the team in dual points scored (39), only behind Konner Doucet (43). Additionally, Vega has not surrendered a takedown in his collegiate career.
Following his 133-pound Cyclone Open title last weekend, No. 14 Forrest continued his dominant start to his first season as a Cowboy, picking up a technical fall win over No. 26 Gage Walker, 16-1, in the second period. Forrest has wrestled in two duals and been on the mat for a total of 3:55 after picking up a first-period pin in his first collegiate dual against Oklahoma. The win is Forrest's first ranked win of his young career, as he improves to 6-0.
174-pounder Alex Facundo took down 2025 All-American No. 10 Cam Steed, 2-1, for his fourth ranked win of the season. Facundo now has back-to-back wins against top-10 foes in Steed and OU's then No. 7 Carter Schubert.
The Cowboy's lead-off man, No. 7 Spratley (125), picked up his sixth-straight win with a major decision over No. 24 Mack Mauger, 19-5. The win is Spratley's fifth ranked win this season, good for third best on the Cowboys, trailing Vega and Merrill.
No. 6 Landon Robideau (157) collected his third top-15 win of his career against former Cowboy, No. 15 Teague Travis, 5-0. The win moves Robideau to 9-1 this season. Another true freshman, No. 2 Dee Lockett (165), moved to 9-0 in his career after a tightly contested 4-2 win over Missouri's J Conway.
197-pounder Cody Merrill collected his seventh-straight win with his victory over No. 12 Evan Bates. Merrill controlled the match from start to finish, picking up a pair of near fall points as time expired to take the bout, 4-0.
No. 12 Casey Swiderski (149) took out Missouri's Seth Mendoza, 4-3, with his takedown in the opening period being the difference in the bout. No. 6 Doucet rounded out the night for the Cowboys with a 5-1 win over No. 26 Jarrett Stoner, marking his 10th win of the season.
No. 8 Zack Ryder (184) dropped his bout to No. 3 Aeoden Sinclair, 4-1, after giving up a takedown late in the third period.
The Cowboys are back in action on Friday, January 30 against Northern Iowa inside Gallagher-Iba Arena at 7 p.m. The dual can be streamed on ESPN+.
