STILLWATER – The 20th-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team defeated No. 55 BYU, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
OSU claimed its ninth straight victory on Saturday, all of which have come against Big 12 opponents. The victory gives the Cowgirls their 10th conference win for the second consecutive season and the fourth in program history.
Following a forfeit win on court three and a loss on court two, it came down to OSU's Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp for the doubles point. The sixth-ranked pairing got down 4-2 to the Cougars' Bobo Huang and Madison Smith but rattled off four straight games to take the victory and the doubles point to give OSU the 1-0 lead heading into singles competition. The win made it eight straight doubles points and gives Komar and Nijkamp their ninth straight victory.
Singles began with the Cowgirls taking courts five and six due to forfeit, giving the Pokes a 3-0 lead. Then, Nijkamp mathematically clinched the victory for OSU, taking down BYU's Elizabeth Tulis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to win her 11th consecutive singles match.
On senior day, Kylie Collins took her match against Smith, 6-2, 6-2, on court three, marking her second win of the weekend. With the match clinched, Komar didn't slow down on court two, earning a straight-set victory for her 12th win of the season. The Cougars picked up their sole point of the match on court one to close out the competition.
The Cowgirls will look to make it 10 consecutive wins as they head to Kansas to take on the Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday.
