In the Rankings
Oklahoma State returned to the top 25 in the ITA team rankings for the first time since Feb. 25 on Tuesday, coming in at No. 20. OSU is one of 11 Big 12 teams to be recognized, joining Texas Tech (15), UCF (17), Baylor (27), Arizona (31), TCU (37), Arizona State (38), Kansas (45), BYU (55), Iowa State (57) and Kansas State (62). In the individual rankings, Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp climbed to a season-best mark of No. 6 in the doubles poll after picking up two top-25 wins last weekend. In the singles rankings, Komar is up to No. 61, while Gracie Epps appeared at No. 63 and Marcela Lopez at No. 117.
Â
The Matchup
Oklahoma State and Utah have met 10 times, with the Cowgirls winning eight to this point. In a series that began in 1990, OSU won the first six matches along with the two most previous in 2007 and 2010. Thursday will be the first time Utah will visit Stillwater since 1995, and Oklahoma State is 3-0 at home in the series. The Cowgirls also lead the series against BYU, 12-10, after snapping a five-match losing streak last season. BYU has won four of six meetings in Stillwater, including each of the last three, but Oklahoma State got a 5-2 win in Provo a year ago.
Â
Chasing History
With a win on Thursday, Oklahoma State head coach Chris Young will stand alone as the all-time wins leader in program history. In his 16th year at OSU, Young will be looking for his 284th win, which would move him past Julius Lubicz-Majewski for the most as the Cowgirls head coach. Should OSU win on Thursday, Young will have accumulated the record total in just 402 matches, for a winning percentage of .706. In his time in Stillwater, Young has led the Cowgirls to 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances while collecting an ITA Indoor National title, three Big 12 regular season championships, two Big 12 tournament titles and an NCAA runner-up finish in 2016.
Â
Big 12's Best
For the second consecutive week, an Oklahoma State player was named Big 12 Player of the Week. Rose Marie Nijkamp joined Anastasiya Komar as the only Cowgirls to earn the honor this season, going 3-0 over the weekend with two ranked doubles wins and a match-clinching singles win against No. 37 TCU. The Netherlands native leads all Big 12 freshmen with 12 singles dual wins and is in the midst of a nine-match win streak. In doubles, she and Komar are 15-2 with five ranked wins while reaching a season-best ranking of No. 6 in the ITA poll.
