ATHENS, Ga. – Five errors and eight runners left on base doomed the No. 17 Oklahoma State softball team in its 8-4 loss to No. 15 Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium Wednesday.

The Cowgirls dipped to 19-8 with the loss, with the Bulldogs improving to 24-8.

Five errors set a season high, and eight runners left on base were the second-highest total of the season for OSU.

The Pokes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Tallen Edwards. UGA answered with two runs in the second, but the Cowgirls regained the lead on the power of a two-run home run to left from Amanda Hasler in the third inning.

Georgia responded with two runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and two more in the sixth to create all the separation it needed for the win.

Despite striking out eight in five innings of work, Ruby Meylan (12-3) took the loss for OSU after allowing a season-high six runs, four of which were earned. Randi Roelling (8-4) was the winner for Georgia and Lilly Backes was credited with her first save after getting the Bulldogs out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and following it by retiring the Cowgirls in order in the seventh.

The Cowgirls are back in action tomorrow when they face Georgia Tech in Atlanta at 6 p.m. CT.
