STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith and distance runner Brian Musau were named USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Coach and Athlete of the Year, respectively, the organization announced Thursday.
Smith was named men's Midwest Region Indoor Coach of the Year after leading the Cowboys to a fifth-place team finish at the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Championships, scoring a program-record 26 points. He also led the Cowboys to a second-place finish at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and finished the season with five First-Team All-Americans, led by 5000-meter champion Brian Musau.
Musau was named men's Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year after collecting OSU's first individual NCAA title in the 5,000 Meters with a meet-record time of 13:11.34, nearly eight seconds faster than the previous record. Later in the meet, Musau doubled back to finish fifth in the 3000 meters to add four more points to Oklahoma State's tally and ultimately helped his squad finish fifth in the team standings – the program's highest finish since 1965.
At the conference meet, Musau also broke the meet record in the 3,000 Meters on his way to his first Big 12 individual title on the indoor circuit. His time at the Big 12 championships ultimately qualified him for the NCAA meet in the 3K, where he ultimately tied as the highest individual scorer on the men's side with 14 points at NCAAs.
