EUGENE, Ore. – Oklahoma State men's and women's outdoor track & field wrapped up action at the Oregon Team Invitational in Eugene, with each team placing fourth overall.
Two-time outdoor All-American Brian Musau started the day off with a bang for the Cowboys on the track, placing second in the men's 1,500 Meter Invite and hitting a new personal-best time of 3:39.27. His time ranks ninth in program history. Two more Cowboys also set new personal bests in the event, with Alex Riley and Oliver Patton clocking times of 3:40.55 and 3:40.71, respectively.
For the Cowgirls, senior Kaylie Politza also ran the ninth-fastest time in program history in the 1,500 Meters with her mark of 4:12.66 for third amongst the collegiate field. Teammate Maureen Rutoh placed as the sixth collegian with a personal-best time of 4:17.86.
Katie Chapman continued her impressive weekend for the Cowgirls, placing second in the 100 Meter Hurdles with her time of 13.90. In addition to her second-place finish in the hurdles, Chapman also set personal bests in the Javelin Throw and Shot Put during Friday night's action.
In the women's 800 Meters, two true freshmen Cowgirls took the top two spots in the event with personal-best times. Elyse Wilmes claimed victory with her time of 2:02.82, good enough for the seventh-fastest time in program history. Paige Stuart followed suit with a second-place finish and a time of 2:05.39, over a second ahead of her previous personal best. The performances were enough to log the Cowgirls a combined 27 points overall.
In the field, Michael Lunsford shined in his first appearance in the Orange and Black during the men's Shot Put Invite. His distance of 18.01 meters was more than enough to catapult him into third place in the event, ranking him fourth in program history and setting a new personal best by over 1.5 meters.
True freshman Burklie Burton continued to find success on the field in her second day of competition, finishing fourth in the Discus Throw Invite. Her distance of 48.30 meters came on her first attempt of the series and was enough to earn her seventh in program history.
Later in the day, three Cowgirl competitors touted spots on the podium following the women's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase Invite. Madi Surber soared in her first ever collegiate Steeplechase event, capturing first place with her time of 10:12.22 and ranking fourth in program history. Bella Nelson and Payton Hinkle rounded out the top three with their finishes in second and third, respectively, with Nelson's time of 10:15.34 ranking fifth in program history.
The men's 4x400 Meter Relay Invite wrapped up the meet in style with the Cowboys taking home the crown. The squad of Will Bynum, Mason Page, Riley McGowan and Charlie Thorne maintained a hold of the lead throughout the entire race to clock a time of 3:06.01, which ties for the seventh-fastest time in program history.
Next up for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is a tri-meet weekend, starting with the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday, a two-day meet at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the OU O Ring Alumni Open in Norman, Okla., on Saturday.
