Oklahoma State Indoor Track & Field closes out strong showing at Tyson Invitational with a flurry of impressive marks
February 15, 2025 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma State Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field returned to action on Saturday for the second and final day of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Valentine Invitational in Boston.
Kicking things off in the field, Senior Saara Hakanen heightened her already illustrious Cowgirl career with another first-place finish in the women's High Jump. Her 1.80-meter leap ties her personal best and OSU school record set at last year's DeLoss Dodds Invitational. Lauren Smith placed second in the Pole Vault with a 4.09-meter effort, the second best mark in Cowgirl history behind only Cowgirl Olympian Ariadni Adamopoulou. On the men's side, Rajaun Ricketts placed third in the Triple Jump with a jump of 15.05 meters.
Over on the track, the Cowboys dominated the men's Mile, claiming four top-ten finishes overall. Laban Kipkemboi led the pack of Cowboys and earned second place in the event in a photo finish. Kipkemboi owns the second best mile time in Oklahoma State history and his time of 3:56.44 today would be the seventh-best mark in program history. Alex Stitt, Ayden Granados and Oliver Patton finished behind Kipkemboi in the top ten, turning in times of 3:59.11, 4:00.40, and 4:02.65, good for fourth, sixth, and tenth place, respectively.
Hafez Mahadi continued his breakout indoor campaign in the 800 Meters, clocking a time of 1:47.32, which is second in program history just behind teammate Mehdi Yanouri. Ty Cook also broke under 1:50 for the first time with his mark of 1:49.19, good enough for ninth on OSU's all-time leaderboard.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls wrapped up the weekend's action at the Tyson Invitational with top-ten finishes in both the men's and women's 4x400 Meter Relay amongst some of the most elite relay groups in the country. The Cowgirls' time of 3:37.68 is good for third all-time in program history and earned them eighth place in the event. The Cowboys' 3:08.91 mark is ninth best in program history and earned them a seventh-place finish.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will travel right back to Fayetteville, Ark., for the fourth time this season for the regular season finale as they compete in the Arkansas Qualifier next Friday, Feb. 21.
