No. 22 Cowgirls Roll Past New Orleans In Season Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team opened its season with a convincing 109-48 victory over New Orleans in front of 2,193 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The 22nd-ranked Cowgirls had six players score in double figures with Micah Gray leading the way with 24 points. Haleigh Timmer added 18, while Lena Girardi scored 15, All-American Stailee Heard had 14, Amari Whiting finished with 11 and Praise Egharevba tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
After New Orleans scored the game's opening bucket, the Cowgirls reeled off the next 13, getting a pair of treys from Heard during that stretch, to force a Privateer turnover at the 5:41 mark of the first. OSU extended the run to 15 before New Orleans got on the board again.
The Cowgirls would shoot 55 percent and drilled five 3-pointers while getting 10 points from Gray in the first frame to lead, 29-12.
OSU opened the second with 14 of the first 16 points to expand its margin to 43-14. The Cowgirls would shoot 64 percent in the period and bury 10 3-pointers to lead, 62-22 at the break.
The Cowgirls used a 7-0 run over the first 90 seconds of the second half to force a New Orleans timeout. OSU would put up 25 points in the quarter to push to an 87-39 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Defensively, OSU held New Orleans to a 3-of-14 effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Privateers by a 22-9 count.
