Kobelt Takes Doubles Title at the Cowboy Classic

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis sophomore Nicolas Kobelt and SMU's Krish Arora claimed the Cowboy Classic doubles title on Sunday morning at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Kobelt, the sophomore from Switzerland, played dominant all weekend, netting three singles wins and three doubles wins, and made appearances in both singles and doubles finals.

In doubles, Kobelt teamed up with Arora all weekend, pairing up to win three straight matches, highlighted by a tight win in the championship match over Tulsa's Victor Tosetto and Reiya Komagata, 6-4.

Moving to singles, Kobelt also took home three straight wins en route to the singles championship. His signature singles win came against Tosetto in the semifinals, cruising to a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-3. Kobelt would eventually fall to Arora in the singles final in the tightest match of the weekend, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-7(4).

Cowboy's Charlie Valentine and Thomas Gadecki also made appearances.

Valentine, in his first action at the Greenwood Tennis Center, made a long run to the semifinals. The native of Netherlands defeated Tulsa's Takeshi Taco in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, before falling to the eventual champ, Arora, 3-6, 2-6.

Gadecki and Valentine played in the opening round of doubles play, falling to Wichita State's Zaid Mashni and Pablo Roche, 4-6.

The Cowboys will be back today at the Greenwood Tennis Center for the start of the UTR PTT Stillwater.
