LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country hits the road for the first time this season to compete in the Big 12 Cross Country Championships Friday, Oct. 29, in Lawrence, Kan.
The Cowboys enter postseason play ranked No. 2 in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll and are winners of four of the past five Big 12 titles on the grass. OSU men have also won the past three individual titles, with Alex Maier in 2022 and Brian Musau in 2023 and 2024 bringing home the individual victories.
Musau sits at No. 2 in FloTrack's individual rankings and is looking to become just the second man in conference history to win three straight conference titles on the grass. Joining him in the rankings is Denis Kipngetich at No. 3 and Fouad Messaoudi at No. 27. Kipngetich is in good form after winning his second career Cowboy Jamboree title in September. The Cowboy trio are all two-time All-Americans in cross country and will be looking to bring home the program's 14th Big 12 championship overall.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls have hovered around the top 10 all season and will be looking to win their first conference title since 2022. Led by freshmen Isca Chelangat and Maureen Rutoh, as well as 2023 All-American Billah Jepkirui, the OSU women are in prime position to contend. The OSU women have won four Big 12 titles, taking home the trophy in 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Overall, four Big 12 men's teams are ranked in the top 10, with Iowa State, OSU, Colorado and BYU sitting at No. 1, 2, 5 and 8, respectively. In the women's race, six conference foes are ranked in the top 20 with BYU, Iowa State, West Virginia, OSU, Colorado and Utah ranked No. 1, 6, 7, 11, 16 and 18, respectively.
