Cowboy Tennis Falls to USC at ITA Kickoff Weekend

TUCSON, Ariz. — Oklahoma State's men's tennis team dropped its match against USC at ITA Kickoff Weekend, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Robson Tennis Center.

The win improves the Trojans to 3-1, while the loss drops the Cowboys to 0-4.

Doubles play opened with USC's Matteo Morazzi and Nathan Trouve defeating Thomas Gadecki and Derek Pham, 6-1, on court two. The Trojans claimed the doubles point minutes later as Volodymyr Iakubenko and Oscar Weightman took down Ian Bracks and Nicolas Kobelt, 6-3.

Court one's matchup between OSU's Isaac Becroft and Alessio Basile and USC's Peter Makk and Tristan Bradley was left unfinished at 3-3.

USC quickly claimed its second point of the match on court six, as Morazzi bested Matei Onofrei, 6-1, 6-0. USC's Iakubenko pushed the match to the brink on court four, defeating Pham, 6-4, 7-5.

The tightly contested matchup saw courts one, two, four and five go to decisive third sets.

The Trojans clinched the match on court two after Trouve rallied for back-to-back sets against Basile to win, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

No. 108 Becroft left his match unfinished against Makk tied in the final set, 3-3, Kobelt abandoned his match with Lee at an even 4-4 and Bracks also left his match early in the final set while down 3-5.

OSU heads home to face Saint Louis on January 31 for its first home match of the season at 5 p.m. at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The Cowboys cap off the two-match homestand with Nebraska on February 2 at 1 p.m.
