STILLWATER– Oklahoma State's No. 4 ranked women's tennis team defeated defeated Southeast Missouri State and Texas State, winning both matches 4-0, Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater.
OSU improved to 3-0 and extended its win streak in regular season matches to 29, dating back to 2023. The Cowgirls also opened the season with three straight shutouts for the first time since 2017 and extended their win streak in regular season home matches to 15.
Oklahoma State opened its day by winning the doubles point against the Southeast Missouri State as Rose Marie Nijkamp and Anastasiya Komar defeated Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova, 6-0. Amber Hochstatter and Marcela Lopez then defeated Yontha and Claudia Casas, 6-1, to clinch the point.
Kylie Collins and Gracie Epps's match did not finish, but the OSU pair led Maja Bajorek and Mia Mayerova, 5-1, when the match was stopped.
Singles play saw its first point go to OSU when No. 58 Lopez defeated Casas, 6-1, 6-1, on court five. The next point for Oklahoma State came from court three as No. 33 Epps defeated Bajorek, 6-1, 6-3. The final Cowgirl came on court four when Njikamp defeated Juliette Demunck, 6-3, 6-2.
Three singles matches went unfinished, as No. 48 Komar led Valeeva, 6-3, 4-1, when play was stopped, while on court two, Collins led Tadoum, 6-4, 0-3, and on court six Hochstatter led Casas, 6-3, 5-2.
After the first win, OSU took on Texas State in the latter half of the doubleheader and opened the match by once again winning the doubles point. First, Collins and Epps defeated Emily Niers and Ireland Simme, 6-1 before Komar and Nijkamp then defeated Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora, 6-3, clinching the point. Lopez and Zack trailed Callie Creath and Kiana Graham, 3-2, when doubles play concluded.
The Cowgirls logged their first singles point when Komar defeated Creath, 6-0, 6-0, on court one. The next point for OSU came from court six when Zack defeated Chantajah Mills, 6-3, 6-2 before Epps clinched the win on court three, defeating Fortuno, 6-3, 6-0.
Three singles matches went unfinished once again, as Collins led Graham, 6-3, 3-3, while Nijkamp led Niers, 6-4, 4-2, and Lopez led Simme, 6-4, 3-2.
Oklahoma State will continue its homestand to open the season when it hosts Clemson as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend at noon at Jan. 25. Depending on that result, the Cowgirls will then play either Arkansas or SMU the following day at either 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. Check okstate.com for details.
