Brian Musau Named Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Outstanding Freshman after Stellar Campaign
May 16, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Brian Musau was named Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Outstanding Freshman following his record-setting regular season, the conference announced Thursday.
Musau set this season's best mark of 13:13.29 in the 5,000 Meters during the Bryan Clay Invitational. When he recorded the time in April, it was the fastest in the world and broke a 12-year-old school record held by Olympian Tom Farrell. Musau is the third male from OSU to receive the Outstanding Freshman honor and the first since 2016.
This award is Musau's second conference honor after being named Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Year for his performances last fall, in which he won the Big 12 Cross Country individual title and helped the Cowboys secure their fifth NCAA title with an eighth-place finish at the national meet as a freshman.
Musau and the rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls will continue their postseason roll next week at the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, Ark, from May 22-25. Top 48 best marks in each event qualify for the West Prelims, with the top 12 marks at the meet in each advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Oregon.
