Cowboy Tennis Downs Baylor in Regular Season Home Finale

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated No. 31 Baylor, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon to close out its regular season home slate at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
With their Senior Day win, the Cowboys improved to 16-7 and 3-3 in Big 12 play. The victory also marks OSU's first against Baylor since 2018 and the first of the Dustin Taylor era. Baylor moved to 17-7 and 2-4 in conference action with the loss.
The Pokes started out hot in doubles action with two dominant victories. Senior Alex Garcia and Francisco Pini took the first match on court two with a 6-2 victory over Baylor's Luc Koenig and Devin Badenhorst. The win moved the duo to 3-0 on the season.
To clinch the doubles point, No. 30 Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft took down the Bears No. 29-ranked pairing of Tadeus Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz, 6-3, on court one. In their first pairing this season, senior Leighton Allen and Alessio Basile went unfinished against Baylor's Christopher Frantzen and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen after the Pokes secured the doubles point.
The match went back and forth throughout the singles portion. Starting on court six, OSU freshman Ty Wunderlich fell to Brostrom Poulsen, 6-2, 6-4. The Bears took the lead after No. 99 Badenhorst defeated No. 77 Garcia, 6-3, 6-4.
The Cowboys started their comeback with a victory on court five. Pini defeated Baylor's Luois Bowden in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. The win marked Pini's 12th singles win on the season.
On court four, Basile took down Koenig in a three-set thriller. Basile lost the first set but came back with two dominant sets, winning the match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. The win put the Pokes up 3-2, needing one more to clinch the match.
No. 23 Zink was the Cowboy to clinch the victory for OSU. He carried the momentum from his doubles performance to defeat No. 68 Paroulek in a tight two sets which featured a tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6(5). This marked Zink's team-leading 15th singles win and fifth over a ranked opponent.
No. 78 Becroft played a tight back and forth match against No. 88 Velcz that went to a third set but went unfinished after the Cowboys clinched the victory.
OSU will return to action on Saturday as it hits the road to face Oklahoma before returning to the Greenwood Tennis Center for the Big 12 Championships starting on April 19.
