Cowboy Tennis Earns No. 5 Seed for Big 12 Conference Championships

STILLWATER – The 36th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team garnered the fifth seed in the Big 12 Conference Championships set to be played on April 19-21 in Stillwater.
In numerical order, Texas landed the one seed, followed by Oklahoma, TCU, UCF, OSU, Baylor, Texas Tech and BYU.
It is the second time Oklahoma State has played host to the conference championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center, with the last in 2016.Â
OSU will take on fourth-seeded UCF in the quarterfinals on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. In UCF's first year in the conference, it will be the first Big 12 Championships matchup between the Pokes and the Knights.
The Cowboys have collected 16 wins this season, with three coming in Big 12 play. In conference action, the Pokes knocked off No. 31 Baylor at home and BYU and Texas Tech in back-to-back matches on the road.
In its history, OSU has collected a combined 21 conference titles, with the last three coming in consecutive years in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Since 1997, the Cowboys have made 12 semifinals appearances, with the most recent coming in 2023.
A year ago, OSU faced off with Texas Tech in the conference quarterfinals. After being down, 1-2 and 2-3, the Cowboys' freshmen Alessio Basile and Carl Roothman led a comeback on courts five and six en route to a 4-3 Oklahoma State victory. Roothman clinched the match in a tight third set, defeating Dimitrios Azoidis, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. It marked OSU's first conference tournament win in the Dustin Taylor era.
