Cowboy Tennis Falls to No. 3 TCU in Big 12 Home Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team opened its Big 12 home slate with a 4-0 setback against third-ranked TCU on Saturday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

The No. 26-ranked Cowboys moved to 15-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The visiting Horned Frogs improved to 16-3 and matched the Pokes with a 2-2 Big 12 record.

Doubles started with OSU's Alex Garcia and Carl Roothman falling to TCU's Kaj Quirijns and Tomas Jirousek, 6-1. The Horned Frogs' 51st-ranked duo of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted took the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over OSU's Alessio Basile and Isaac Becroft. On court one, Cowboys Tyler Zink and Erik Schiessl went unfinished with the OSU tandem holding a 4-3 lead over Pedro Vives and Jack Pinnington.

Singles started with TCU increasing its lead to two on court four. Schiessl retired the match after the first set and Jirousek took the point for the Horned Frogs. Next on court six, Roothman fell to TCU's Julian Alonso, 6-2, 6-0, to put the Horned Frogs within one of claiming victory.

TCU secured the match with a win from No. 8 Jack Pinnington over No. 18-ranked Zink. With the match settled, Becroft, Basile and Garcia all saw their matches go unfinished.

The Cowboys return to the Greenwood Tennis Center next week to continue league action. On Friday, the Pokes take on Texas before facing Baylor on Sunday.
