Keeping The Ball Rolling
Oklahoma State enters the stacked field at Papago Golf Club with momentum after notching a comeback 5.5-3.5 win over Oklahoma this past Friday in Norman to claim the sixth Bedlam Cup.
After trailing by two team points with four singles matches on the board, the Cowgirls needed three wins to tie and all four matches to win the event outright. With 3&2 wins from Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Marta Silchenko, the Cowgirls recouped some distance before Angelica Pfefferkorn won 1UP to hand OSU its first lead of the day.
After a 30-minute stoppage after Thitaporn Saithip's tee shot neared a fairway bunker on hole No. 17, the sophomore sealed play to win 2UP.
"I think right now we kind of keep coming closer to the point where we're going to win," Saithip said. "Right now, everybody is working so hard every single day. So I feel like this event built confidence in each other."
The Cowgirls return to Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on April 8-9 for the Match Play at the Jimmie.
A Dream Come True
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard will be traveling to Augusta National following the PING/ASU Invitational to compete at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur on April 3-6 at Champions Retreat Golf Club and Augusta National.
"It's a dream come true, really," Hinson-Tolchard said. "I've been wanting to play this tournament [Augusta National Women's Amateur] for the last three years, and I've been working hard to put myself in a position where I was able to get the invitation. Now, that's become a reality, so I'm really looking forward to it."
As one of 72 women amateurs selected for the event, Hinson-Tolchard has continued to build her resume in America's Brightest Orange. Across 18 rounds this season, she has carded two top-10 finishes while nearing Maja Stark's single-season scoring average of 70.48 Entering Phoenix, Hinson-Tolchard owns a 70.50 scoring average.
Hinson-Tolchard is the fifth Cowgirl in the last four years to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, joining Rina Tatematsu, Isabella Fierro, Caley McGinty and Maja Stark.
The Cowgirls in Phoenix
Tomorrow marks the Cowgirls' 10th appearance at the PING/ASU Invitational and its first since the 2018-19 season.
Oklahoma State made its first appearance at the tournament in 1994 where Anne Pitts secured her 12th conference championship, while the team finished 10th at the NCAA Championships.
Across the team's nine appearances, it has placed a top-10 individual in five tournaments and notched a win at the 2008-09 event before winning the Big 12 Championship in its next event.
A mere 18 miles from Papago Golf Club carries another familiar site in PING Headquarters, particularly for fifth-year golfer Jenna Solheim. Solheim grew up working inside PING's Gold Putter Vault and has interned with the company for multiple summers. Jenna is the great-granddaughter of Karsten Solheim, the founder of Ping Golf and the golf equipment company Karsten Manufacturing.
