Cowboy Tennis Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats Drake, 7-0

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis continued its hot streak, defeating Drake, 7-0, to collect its fifth straight win on Saturday at Greenwood Tennis Center.
The victory gave the Cowboys their eighth win at home this season. The win put them at 9-2, the best start to a season since 2018.
The doubles point was highly contested to start the match. On court one, Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia faced off against the Bulldogs' No. 48 ranked doubles pairing, Matija Matic and Oliver Johannson. Zink and Garcia suffered their first loss of the season, 6-2, moving to 5-1 on the season.
With the doubles point on the line, the Pokes stepped up. Starting on court two with Isaac Becroft and Alessio Basile, the pairing defeated Drake's Matt Clegg and Markus Bolin, 6-4, to tie up the doubles point. The win gave the duo their team-high, sixth doubles win.
With the point up for grabs, OSU's Goran Zgola and Francisco Pini made it a match. After going down 6-5 on court three, they came back and took down Drake's Olle Sonesson Lidholt and Jeremy Schifris with a dominant tiebreaker, 7-6(7-0). This clinched the doubles point for the Pokes, making it 1-0. Zgola and Pini are the seventh doubles pairing for OSU to tally a win this season.
The singles portion of the match saw the Cowboys continue the momentum, winning every first set in the six singles matches. OSU only gave up one set in singles, winning five out of six in straight sets.
Starting on court four, Basile took it to Bolin and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Avenging his doubles loss, No. 18 ranked Zink played a complete match against Drake's Schifris, taking him down, 6-2, 6-3.
Needing one more singles match to clinch the dual, freshman Zgola defeated Aaron Dawson, 6-3, 6-2, on court six. Zgola moved to 3-0 in his young singles career and the win kept the OSU freshman undefeated. The three freshmen to record a singles match are 12-0 combined.
With the match settled, the Pokes didn't let up. On court five, Francisco Pini took control and cruised to a 6-4, 6-3, victory over Sonesson Lindholt. Isaac Becroft was the next to finish. After a close first set resulting in a tiebreaker, Becroft took down Drake's Matic, 7-6(2), 6-2. This put Becroft at a team-best 8-0 record at singles and moved the Cowboys to 10-0 on court three this season.
No. 32 ranked Alex Garcia closed out the match with a close battle on court two against Johannson, winning, 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3. It was Garcia's seventh win on the season.
Oklahoma State men's tennis will look to make it six in a row as they go on the road to take on Tulane on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
