Cowboy Basketball falls to hot-shooting Nevada in Charleston finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Oklahoma State men's basketball team fell to shot-shooting Nevada, 90-78, Sunday afternoon in the Charleston Classic fifth-place game.

Marchelus "Chi Chi" Avery scored 15 points to lead the Cowboys (4-2), who cut a 19-point deficit to as little as four points near the 7:00-mark of the second half but could get no closer.

Arturo Dean added a season-high 13 points to go with 11 apiece from Robert Jennings II and Abou Ousmane.

A clash of styles saw slow, methodical Nevada (6-1) shot 58.9% from the field helped by 46 points in the paint. Kobe Sanders (27 points) and Nick Davidson (23) paced the scoring.

OSU held an 18-4 edge in fastbreak points and out-scored the Wolf Pack 30-17 from the foul line but shot just 42% from the field, including 6-of-21 from deep (.286).

Up 40-33 at halftime, the Wolf Pack made 9-of-10 shots to begin the second half. Sanders' third three-pointer of the day capped an 18-3 run that upped Nevada's lead to 62-43 near the 14:00-mark.

Avery scored seven points during an 11-0 Cowboy counter, capped by a three-pointer that narrowed the margin back to 62-54 with more than 11:00 still to play.

Jamyron Keller's three-pointer helped spark another 7-0 OSU run that closed the gap to 70-66 with 7:08 to play.

Nevada scored on each of its next three possessions to regain control and kept the Cowboys at arm's length the rest of the way.
