Cowboys ride defense to 21-point road win at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State piled up 16 steals in a 76-55 victory over Tulsa on Wednesday evening at the Reynolds Center.
The Cowboys (5-2) scored 32 points off 22 turnovers and held their hosts to a paltry 36% from the field (5-of-24, .208 from three) to secure their first true road win of the season.
Tulsa dropped to 4-5 on the year.
Bryce Thompson – a Tulsa native whose father starred for the Golden Hurricane in the late 90s – put on a strong performance in front of friends and family, with a game-high 15 points, four assists and four steals. The latter matched his career high set two years ago against Texas Tech.
Abou Ousmane added 13 points and seven rebounds. Six of his points came during a 9-0 run that put OSU in front for good near the 5:00-mark of the first half.
Marchelus "Chi Chi" Avery and Brandon Newman tacked on 11 points each and Davonte "Devo" Davis had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Cowboys turned three straight steals into transition layups during an 8-0 run to close the first half. They led 39-26 at halftime and doubled the margin to as many as 26 late.
The Cowboys attempted 44 of their 61 shots from inside the paint. They shot a season-best 49.2% from the field while launching just eight three-pointers -- fewest in nearly five seasons.
OSU has held Tulsa to less than 60 points in each of the last three years – all double-digit victories. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 77-39.
OSU is back in action Sunday at Seton Hall (11 a.m. CT, FS1).
