Thompson eclipses 1,000-point mark vs. No. 3 Kansas
January 16, 2024 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. – Bryce Thompson surpassed 1,000th collegiate points, but Oklahoma State fell 90-66 to No. 3 Kansas at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Thompson, who entered the night with 986 points in four seasons (three at OSU and one at Kansas), put up 20 against his former school on 3-of-7 three-point shooting.
The senior guard from Tulsa now needs just 85 more to become the 46th player with 1,000 points entirely in a Cowboy uniform.
Jarius Hicklen and Brandon Garrison added 10 points each and Javon Small handed out seven assists for OSU (8-9, 0-4 Big 12).
Hunter Dickinson (21 points) and Kevin McCullar Jr. (18 points, eight assists) led the way offensively for Kansas (15-2, 3-1), which shot 62.1% from the field to OSU's 38.5%, helped by a 20-3 edge on fast break points.
The Jayhawks built leads of 15-6, 25-10 and 37-17 in the first half after sinking 17 of their first 24 shots from the field.
Thompson beat the halftime buzzer with a three for OSU to trim the deficit to 48-33, but the Jayhawks launched another 12-0 volley early in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Thompson reached his milestone with 10:12 to go on a pair of free throws.
Oklahoma State goes back out on the Big 12 road Saturday at Kansas State (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+).

…Brandon Garrison's performance against KU's All-American center Hunter Dickinson:
"His confidence is still growing every game he plays. Today was just his 17th college basketball game, and Hunter's probably played a hundred-some-odd-plus. You can't really quantify how much that means. We're going to look up some day and hope Garrison's the guy doing that against a younger guy, himself. But I'm proud of the progress he's making… He gets better because he's got humility, he works his butt off and he doesn't complain. He's still got a lot of room to grow. A lot to get better at. But he's on the right trajectory, for sure.
… Quality minutes from freshman Connor Dow off the bench:
"He's getting better. He's getting more confident. The thing I love about Connor is, he's not afraid to stick his nose in there and do things maybe you think he's maybe not capable of… He's a good athlete. He's competitive. I loved his spirit today, even when we were down… He's going to be a big part of what we're building."
