LIVing on Tulsa Time
May 11, 2023 | Cowboy Golf
This weekend, LIV Golf ventures to Oklahoma for the first time and with it a heavy presence from the Oklahoma State program. Of the 48 players scheduled to compete, five played collegiately an hour down the road from Broken Arrow for the storied Cowboy program.
Cowboy All-Americans Eugenio Chacarra, Charles Howell III, Talor Gooch, Peter Uihlein and Matthew Wolff will all tee it up this weekend at Cedar Ridge Country Club.
The 48-player, 12-team field will play 54 holes of stroke play over three days starting on Friday and wrapping up on Sunday at the par-70, 7,213-yard layout. Each round will feature a shotgun start at 12:15 p.m. with a $25 million ($20 million — individual, $5 million — team) purse on the line. The individual winner will pocket $4 million, while the winning team will take home $3 million.
Of the five events thus far in 2023, three have been won by Cowboys will Charles Howell III winning the season opener in Mexico in February. Last month, Talor Gooch went back-to-back in Adelaide and Singapore, marking the first time a player has posted back-to-back LIV Golf wins.
Entering play at Cedar Ridge, the Pokes own the top three positions in the season-long individual standings with Gooch holding the top spot, while Uihlein stands in second place and Howell holds down the No. 3 slot.
Last year, Chacarra became the first Cowboy to emerge victorious at a LIV event, winning in Bangkok. It took Chacarra just five starts to record his first win, posting rounds of 65, 63, 69 to finish at 19-under and three clear of the field.
This season, Howell broke through in the opener at Mayakoba, posting a 16-under total including an 8-under 63 final round to finish four shots clear of Uihlein.
In 2022, Uihlein tallied three top-five finishes, including runner-up showings in Chicago and Jeddah. He finished third in the season-long individual champion standings.
Last season, Wolff was second among Liv Golf players in driving distance at 323.5 yards and made Liv Golf history after recording the circuit's first hole-in-one in Boston last September. He was runner-up at the Bedminster event as well.
