Preston Stout Becomes OSU’s 10th NCAA Medalist

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Oklahoma State's Preston Stout continued his remarkable spring on Monday, becoming the 10th Cowboy to capture medalist honors at the NCAA Championship.
The Cowboy junior did so at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa to join the likes of Earl Moeller, Grier Jones, David Edwards, Scott Verplank, Brian Watts, E.J. Pfister, Charles Howell, Jonathan Moore and Matthew Wolff.
The win was the eighth of Stout's career, moving him into a tie for third place on the school's all-time list with Willie Wood. Additionally, the Richardson, Texas native has won five times this season, the most by a Cowboy junior.
Stout closed with a 69, that featured a 4-under 32 on his front nine. He moved to 5-under for the day with a birdie at the 11th and ended a 39-hole run without a bogey with one at the 12th. After a bogey at the 17th, he bounced back with a birdie at the 18th.
He would finish at 14-under 274 and a stroke clear of Alabama's William Jennings.
In the team race, the Cowboys posted a 285 to finish at 11-under 1,141.
Junior Gaven Lane tied for 39th place after firing a closing 69 to finish at 289.
Junior Ethan Fang shared 42nd place at 290 after posting a closing 72, while classmate Eric Lee was 49th at 292 after posting a 76 during his fourth round.
Sophomore Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson rounded out the starting five with a 75 to post a 301 total and finish in 77th place.
The Cowboys will take on Florida in the quarterfinal round of match play tomorrow starting at 7:40 a.m. (PST).
