May 10, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
SAN ANTONIO – Fourth-seeded Oklahoma State women's golf punched its ticket to the NCAA Championship after finishing tied for third at the NCAA San Antonio Regional at TPC San Antonio on Wednesday.
With the result, the Cowgirls are headed to nationals for the third consecutive season and 29th time in program history. Excluding the canceled 2020 spring schedule, Greg Robertson has now led Oklahoma State to the NCAA Championship every season since being hired as head coach.
The finish also sealed Oklahoma State's seventh top-3 outing in its last eight postseason tournaments.
OSU entered the third round with a comfortable 11-stroke cushion over sixth-place Denver and combined to shoot a 4-over 292 to hold steady inside the cut. The Cowgirls ended the day tied with top-seeded Texas A&M at 16-over, nine shots ahead of fifth-place New Mexico.
As a team, the Cowgirls were able to take advantage of scoring opportunities and birdied 42 holes throughout the week, third-most among the field.
For the second tournament in a row, Clemence Martin finished tied for third, this time with a 2-under 214. She was par-or-better all three days at the 6,342-yard layout, signing off on rounds of 72-70-72. Additionally, Martin's 214 is her best 54-hole score of the spring and second-lowest of the season.
The sophomore was consistent throughout her time in San Antonio, sinking 11 birdies and going 3-under on par-5 holes.
Wednesday marked Martin's third time tying for third this season, all equal for the highest finish of her career.
Rina Tatematsu posted her best finish of the season following rounds of 76-69-70 (-1) 215, leading to fifth-place. The outing was Tatematsu's 10th top-10 as a Cowgirl and her best 54-hole score of the spring.
Tatematsu, a 2021 WGCA Honorable Mention All-American, provided a much-needed boost to the Cowgirl lineup, as she nailed 10 birdies and shot 4-under on par-5's.
Oklahoma State has now placed a pair of players in the top-5 two straight tournaments after Martin and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard did so at the Big 12 Championship in late April.
Freshman Thitaporn Saithip continued her solid postseason with a top-25 finish at 8-over 224. Saithip fired a dozen birdies this week, most on the team, and her first round 70 was vital in the team race.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard improved each day in San Antonio before finishing tied for 37th. The junior led the Cowgirls with 41 pars and has now played 56 consecutive rounds in which her score counted towards the overall team score.
Han-Hsuan Yu recorded an 8-over 80 to end her week tied for 51st.
Oklahoma State will return to action at the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, starting May 19. The tournament will begin with four rounds of stroke play before moving to an eight-team match play bracket.
The Cowgirls finished as National Runner-Up in 2021 and are looking for the program's first team national championship.
