Cowgirls In Second After Tight First Day At Big 12 Championship
April 21, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
DALLAS, Texas – No. 23 Oklahoma State women's golf opened its postseason at the Big 12 Championship at the Dallas Athletic Club on Friday, combining to shoot a 6-over 294 in the first round and ending the day in solo second.
The Cowgirls trail the leader, Texas Tech, by three strokes and own a single stroke advantage over third-place TCU. It was a competitive first day, as the top five finishers all landed within five shots of one another.
2022 Big 12 Player of the Year Maddison Hinson-Tolchard had an outstanding first round, signing off on a 1-under 71 to place her in a tie for second. She was one of just three players under par and led the field in par-5 scoring at 3-under.
With the result, Hinson-Tolchard also matched the program record with 49 par-or-better rounds played throughout her career, equaling the total set by former Cowgirl Kenzie Neisen.
Making her first ever postseason appearance, Clemence Martin also finished inside the top-10 in a tie for seventh after carding a 1-over 73. The sophomore settled in nicely as the round went on, sinking a pair of birdies and zero bogeys in her final 13 holes.
Martin is in search of the third top-10 outing of her career and first ever victory as a Cowgirl.
Thitaporn Saithip was not far behind, landing just outside the top-10 in a tie for 11th at 2-over. The freshman was able to take advantage of her scoring opportunities and recorded five birdies on the day, most on the team.
Han-Hsuan Yu finished the afternoon tied for 26th following her 4-over 76, and Rina Tatematsu rounded out the lineup in a tie for 32nd at 6-over.
The Cowgirls are set to tee off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CT alongside the Red Raiders and Horned Frogs.
Live scoring for the tournament will once again be available on GolfStat.com, while Sunday's championship round will be aired on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
