Cowgirls Come Up Short in Fall National Championship
November 05, 2023 | Cowgirl Tennis
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Oklahoma State's Ange Oby Kajuru and Anastasiya Komar fell in the doubles final of the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif., on Sunday.
The Cowgirl pair became the first in program history to reach the doubles final in the collegiate tennis fall finale, dating back to 1984.
After knocking off the top-ranked doubles pairing in the country and the defending champions of the event yesterday, Kajuru and Komar were faced with the No. 2 ranked team in Elizabeth Scotty and Reese Brantmeier from North Carolina in the final. The Cowgirls struggled to get anything going throughout the match, falling 1-6, 2-6.
OSU wraps up a fall schedule that saw success in both collegiate and professional tournaments, including a national runner-up, a regional title and multiple professional titles. The team will now turn its attention to the spring, where it will be led by transfers Kajuru, Komar and Safiya Carrington, along with a handful of returning Cowgirls. The program will also prepare to host the 2024 Big 12 and NCAA National Championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater at the end of the season.
