Gonzalez Wins Title at Freeman Memorial Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the final day of play at the Freeman Memorial Invitational on Sunday.
Raquel Gonzalez and Lucia Peyre competed in the final of each of their singles draws, while the doubles team of Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru played in the final of their doubles draw.
Gonzalez was the only Cowgirl to capture the title on Sunday, defeating Coco Zhao of UNLV, 7-5, 6-0. Peyre fell to UCLA's Bianca Fernandez, 1-6, 0-6, while Kajuru and Komar lost to the No. 4 pairing of Janice Tjen and Savannah Broadus from Pepperdine, 5-7.
In singles consolation play, Komar defeated Pepperdine's Lisa Zaar, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Kajuru also got a win, beating No. 21 Broadus 6-3, 7-5. Ayumi Miyamoto got a ranked win, besting No. 77 Nikki Redelijk of Pepperdine, 6-2, 6-4.
Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak each fell in their consolation matches, with Carrington falling to UCLA's Anne Lutkmeyer, 3-6, 2-6, and Novak losing to UCLA's Ahmani Guichard, 5-7, 3-6.
In consolation doubles, Gonzalez and Miyamoto beat the No. 38 team of Malwina Rowinska and Qavia Lopez from Florida, 6-1. Carrington and Peyre also got a win, defeating UNLV's Aura Fang and Nikol Mircheva, 6-3.
No. 6 Oklahoma State will open its dual season by hosting No. 5 Michigan on Friday, followed by No. 14 Ohio State visiting Stillwater on Sunday.
