Cowgirl Tennis Takes Down Michigan in Top Five Thriller

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's fifth-ranked women's tennis team opened its 2024 campaign with a huge win over No. 4 Michigan inside the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday night.
The top-five matchup for the Cowgirls got off on the right foot with OSU claiming the doubles point. On Court two, Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonalez made quick work of Michigan's Anna Ross and Reese Miller 6-1.
On Center Court, the sixth-ranked doubles pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru fell at the hands of Michigan's eighth-ranked duo, Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller, 3-6.
In the decisive match on Court 3, OSU's Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak pulled through, putting away the Wolverines' Lily Jones and Piper Charney, 6-3.
The first match of singles play went the way of the Wolverines, as Piper Charney took down Raquel Gonalez, 2-6, 3-6.
On Center Court, the crowd was brought to life as No. 13 Anastasiya Komar took down Michigan's No. 10 Kari Miller, 6-2, 6-4.
OSU's 53rd-ranked Lucia Peyre followed up the big win with one of her own, beating Jaeden Brown, 6-2, 6-2.
Michigan's 39th-ranked Julia Fliegner kept her team in the fight with a big win over No. 2 Ange Oby Kajuru, 4-6, 2-6.
With the outcome on the line, 60th-ranked Ayumi Miyamoto won it for the Cowgirls, taking down No. 47 Lily Jones in a thriller.
No. 62 Safiya Carrington battled with No. 94 Gala Mesochoritou but went unfinished due to the Cowgirl win.
The Cowgirls look to continue their great start this Sunday as they take on No. 14 Ohio State at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
