Cowboy Cross Country Gains Ground in USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll
October 31, 2023 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country each cracked the top-5 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches Poll for the fifth time this season, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys remained steady at No. 2, but added three first-place votes to their total from last week, giving them five overall. OSU and defending national champions are separated by just a single point in the poll, with NAU receiving 325 points (six first-place votes) to OSU's 324 points (five first-place votes).
The Cowboys are coming off their fourth straight Big 12 Championship and 13th in the last 16 years after defeating No. 3 BYU by 30 points overall. Freshman Brian Musau and senior Alex Maier took home the top two spots individually, with Musau being the first freshman to win the Big 12 individual title since Cowboy German Fernandez in 2008.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls moved up one spot to No. 5 following their runner-up finish at the Big 12 Championships, behind only No. 3 BYU. Taylor Roe and Billah Jepkirui finished 1-2 on the day with Roe becoming the first Cowgirl to win an individual Big 12 title in cross country in the conference's history. She was also the first conference champion on the grass since Heather Garrett in 1989.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will return to action in Stillwater for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course on Nov. 10.
