Four Cowboys Remain Perfect, Doubles Pairing Reaches Quarterfinals

STILLWATER – Four members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis team and two doubles pairings advanced to the Round of 16 in singles and doubles action on day two of the ITA Regional on Thursday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
All four Cowboys remaining in the singles draw advanced to the round of 16. Two out of three doubles pairings moved on.
Tyler Zink kicked things off for the Pokes, advancing to the round of 16 via a win over Tulsa's Alex Okonkwo, 7-6(7), 6-1. Alessio Basile was right behind Zink, claiming a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, win over Mark Mandlik of Oklahoma.
Alex Garcia tallied a win over New Mexico's Aram Naroozian, 6-4, 6-4. Isaac Becroft was the fourth Cowboy to advance on the day, beating Nic Wiedenhorn of Nebraska in the third set, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
In doubles play, Leighton Allen and Carl Roothman beat Vanja Hodzic and Richey King from Wichita State, 8-4, being the first OSU doubles pairing to reach the round of 16.
Later in the day, Zink and Becroft cruised past the tandem of Mykhailo Kvantaliani and Marcelo Sepulveda from Wichita State, 8-3. Both in their third matches of the day, Zink and Becroft knocked off Jared Horwood and Benedikt Emesz (Arkansas), 8-6.
Roothman and Allen fell, 5-8, against Alejandro Gandini and Matthew Lanahan (Creighton).
Basile and freshman Erik Schiessl fell to Georgio Samaha and Nicolas Recoura of New Mexico 4-8 in doubles action.
Friday's action is slated to start at 9 a.m. in singles consolation, with the main draw beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
