OSU Sweeps First Matchup Of ITA Kickoff Weekend

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team completed its first day of the ITA Kickoff weekend with a sweep over Oregon on Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Backed by a packed crowd, the Cowgirls won 4-0 in commanding fashion thanks to multiple straight-set singles victories from Ayumi Miyamoto, Sofia Rojas and Lucia Peyre. With the win, OSU improves to 2-0 on the season.

Peyre sealed the victory for OSU after a come from behind second set victory against Oregon's Karin Young just moments after Miyamoto and Rojas locked up their points. The Ducks, now 2-1, failed to win any of the first sets in the singles competitions which gave the Cowgirls all the momentum.

In doubles, Miyamoto and Peyre continued their dominant streak as a pair defeating Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral, 6-3. Shortly after, Rojas and Raquel Gonzalez wrapped up their respective match with the same score. With the doubles point secured, Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg did not finish their match, though they were up 5-3.

Miyamoto and Peyre came out swinging against their respective singles opponents both winning their matches, 6-0, 6-4. Rojas bested Ares Teixido Garcia in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Novak, Wolfberg and Gonzalez's matchups went unfinished, but all three Cowgirls were in the lead.

With the win, OSU will face No. 16 Michigan on Sunday for the chance to go to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Washington. Action will start at 1 p.m. (CST) after the consolation match between Kansas and Oregon at 10 a.m. (CST).
