Cowgirl Tennis Comes Up Short Against Michigan

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's 14th-ranked Cowgirl tennis team came up short in a tightly contested match against No. 16 Michigan, 4-2, at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Sunday.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 2-1 on the year.
The day began with doubles, where Sofia Rojas and Raquel Gonzalez captured their second win of the year after defeating Andrea Cerdan and Merri Kelly, 6-4.
Lucia Peyre and Ayumi Miyamoto fell to No. 2 Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller, 7-5, while Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg dropped their match against Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones, 7-6 (5), to give the Wolverines the doubles point.
In singles action, Miyamoto erased the Cowgirl deficit with a dominant victory over Gala Mesochoritou, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Wolfberg pulled out a 6-1, 6-4 upset against 40th-ranked Jaedan Brown to place the Cowgirls in the lead. Rojas lost to No. 39 Fliegner, 6-3, 6-4, and Michigan's Cerdan bested Gonzalez, 6-2, 6-3, to move the Wolverines back in front.
It all came down to courts one and four in a couple of very close matchups, but Novak ultimately fell to 81st-ranked Miller, 7-5, 7-6 (8), to give the Wolverines the match-clinching point.
Peyre's singles match went unfinished in a fierce battle versus No. 65 Lily Jones where it was left at 7-5, 2-6, 5-5.
