Cowgirls Tennis Opens Up The Spring Season With Dominating Victory Over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State 13th-ranked women's tennis team coasted to victory against Tulsa to open up its spring season on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls won the match, 6-1, behind five singles wins and two doubles victories. Lucia Peyre made her OSU debut dominating in both matchups today. The Cowgirls improved to 1-0 in the young season while the Hurricanes dropped to 3-1.
Peyre and Ayumi Miyamoto started the day with a victory in doubles against Tulsa's Maria Berlanga and Lily Hutchings by a score of 6-2. That score was repeated by duo Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg who secured the doubles point for the Cowgirls after defeating Laia Conde Monfort and Ana Naranjo Martinez.
Amy Leather and and Myroslava Zelenchuk dropped Sofia Rojas and Raquel Gonzalez, 6-2.
In singles competition, four Cowgirls won their matches in straight-sets. Peyre was the first Cowgirl to finish after dominating Lian Benefejcic 6-0, 6-2. Wolfberg and Miyamoto teamed up to put the match out of reach for the Golden Hurricanes racking up one point each in their own straight-set victories to secure the win for the Cowgirls.
Rojas was the fourth Cowgirl to win in straight sets after defeating Hutchings in a more competitive match, 7-6 (3), 6-4. Novak gave the Cowgirls another point with her victory over Monfort. Tulsa picked up its lone point after Leather defeated Gonzalez, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
With today's win, the Cowgirls have won five-straight against its in-state opponents.
Next, the Cowgirls will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Stillwater which will take place Jan. 28-29 at the Greenwood Tennis Center. OSU will take on Oregon for the first matchup before facing Kansas or Michigan.
