Cowboys Oust Omaha, 4-0, as Chase Ferguson Shines in Debut

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team started the weekend on a high note Saturday evening, speeding by the Omaha Mavericks, 4-0.
The Cowboys are slated for a busy weekend, taking on three opponents in a two-day span.
Leighton Allen and Carl Roothman kicked off the weekend for the Cowboys, besting Hugo Piles Ballester and Quintan Van Wjik, 6-3, on court three.
Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft continued their court-one successes, taking down Mikhail Korkunov and Davis Lawley, 6-3, to secure the doubles point for OSU.
Zink and Becroft are a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this season for the Pokes.
Court two play had Chase Ferguson and Francisco Pini trailing 3-4 to Ryoma Mishiro and Ethan Gaubert before opting to move to singles.
The Cowboys built upon their singles streak Saturday with all six Pokes in play: Zink, Ferguson, Pini, Becroft, Allen and Roothman taking down their opponent in the first set. Oklahoma State is 18-0 in opening singles sets this season.
Ferguson posted an emphatic OSU debut in singles, winning 11-consecutive games versus Lawley on court two. After sliding in game 12, the South Florida transfer closed out the match, reigning victorious 6-0, 6-1.
Zink collected his singles win shortly after, taking down Korkunov 6-4, 6-4 for a 3-0 OSU lead.
With Becroft, Roothman and Pini needing one game for victory, Becroft delivered the game-clinching strike over Ryoma Mishiro – besting Ryoma Mishiro 6-1, 6-4, to seal a 4-0 victory for the Cowboys.
Roothman, Pini and Allen ended the day with unfinished matches.
The Cowboys saddle back into action tomorrow as they face Lamar at 11 a.m. and Oral Roberts at 5 p.m. in a back-to-back set.
