Cowgirls Come Up Short In Tough Battle Against No. 18 Iowa State

Ames, Iowa — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 69-64 loss at the hands of No. 18 Iowa State in front of 9,879 fans inside Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones hit a pair of early 3-pointers before the Cowgirls made five consecutive field goals to grab an 11-8 lead halfway through the first quarter. OSU would make it eight in a row from the floor to extend the margin to 17-11 with three minutes remaining.
Despite being held scoreless for the remainder of the period, the Cowgirls took a 17-15 lead at the break after shooting 57 percent from the floor. Taylen Collins scored eight points and grabbed four boards, including the 500th of her career, to lead the way.
ISU started the second with the first four points to move back in front, 19-17, before OSU ended its scoring drought three minutes in on a jumper from Terryn Milton. However, the Cyclones made it an 8-2 run to extend their margin to four at 23-19.
The OSU deficit would grow to 30-21 before Lior Garzon buried a trey with three minutes to go in the half. The Cyclones limited the Cowgirls to 11 points in the quarter and would take a 32-28 lead at the break.
In the third, OSU used four consecutive field goals with the last being a 3-pointer from Claire Chastain to knot the score at 39 with six minutes to go. Chastain knocked down a free throw at the 4:34 mark to cap a 6-0 run to put OSU back in front.
Anna Gret Asi reeled off five straight points to give OSUa 45-41 lead with three minutes to go in the frame.
The Cyclones got a 3-pointer of their own to close the quarter and take a 49-47 lead into the final 10 minutes.
ISU got a trey to open the fourth to expand the margin to five before Naomie Alnatas hit a deep trey and a pair of free throws to tie the score at 52. The Cyclones would answer with the next five to restore the advantage.
Despite a 2-of-10 stretch from the floor, OSU still trailed by just two possessions at 63-57 before the Cyclones drilled a 3-pointer with 1:40 to go to take their largest lead of the game.
Asi finished with a career-high 15 points, while Collins added her fifth double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
