June 07, 2022 | General, Cowgirl Softball, Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's Jules Callaham and Dusty Hone were selected as recipients of 2021-22 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships, the Big 12 announced Tuesday.
Callaham is one of just three softball players from the conference to earn the scholarship and Hone is the only wrestler from the conference to earn the scholarship.
Last week Callaham received the NCAA's Elite 90 award to become the first two-time winner of the award in OSU history and the first NCAA softball two-time winner. She has also earned multiple first team Academic All-Big 12 honors in her career.
Athletically classified as a junior, Callaham has totaled 96 institutional credits since her arrival at OSU in 2020, which classifies her as a senior academically. The Broken Bow, Oklahoma, native has maintained a 4.0 GPA as she pursues a degree in animal science pre-veterinary medicine. In February, she was accepted into Oklahoma State's College of Veterinary Medicine.
On the field, Callaham saw action in 35 games this season during the Cowgirls' run to the semifinals of the Women's College World Series and played a valuable role where she was mainly used as a pinch runner or pinch hitter. In her three-year OSU career, she played in 59 games and scored 17 runs.
Callaham is the fifth Cowgirl softball player to earn the Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship, joining Jade Lindly (2004), Megan Carey (2005), Chelsea Garcia (2012) and Mackenzie Thomas (2020).
A three-time first team Academic All-Big 12 team selection, Hone has also been honored as a recipient of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, which is the Big 12 conference's highest academic honor, and as an NWCA Scholar All-American.
On the mat, Hone wrapped up his wrestling career with a 62-25 overall record that included 27 bonus-point wins, as well as honorable mention NWCA All-America honors in 2020.
Hone is the third Cowboy wrestler to earn the Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship, joining Mark Branch (1997) and Jordan Rogers (2017).
The scholarships are named in honor of the late Dr. Prentice Gautt, a former Big 12 Conference staff member and student services' pioneer who passed away in March 2005. The list of all-time recipients has grown to 481 since the inception of the league in 1996-97. Starting in 2002-03, additional funding increased scholarship award winners to two per member institution.
Criteria for the awards includes a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.200 on a 4.000 scale and participation in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the nominee's respective institution. The student-athletes must graduate from their respective member institutions and enroll in graduate or professional school of their choice within 15 months of their selection of the postgraduate scholarship.
