Maxwell, Elish Named NFCA All-Americans
June 01, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball's Kelly Maxwell was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association first-team All-American, while Miranda Elish was named to the second team, it was announced today.
The duo elevates OSU softball's All-American total to 44. They are the 12th and 13th Gajewski-era All-Americans.
Maxwell, the 2022 Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Year, earned Oklahoma State's 15th first-team All-America honor in program history, named to the 2022 NFCA first team as a pitcher.
A lefthander from Friendswood, Texas, she has sported a 1.16 earned run average with a 19-4 record. She currently ranks in the top 10 in the Big 12 in ERA, opposing batting average, innings pitched, strikeouts, wins, saves, hits and runs. She is the conference's strikeout leader with 279 heading into the Women's College World Series.
The Cowgirls' ace was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on four occasions this season, more than any other Big 12 hurler.
Maxwell added a no-hitter – the fourth of her career – against Texas Tech on March 25 as she struck out 16 Red Raiders in that contest. Her 18 strikeouts against Kansas on April 15 set a school record for the most by a Cowgirl in a seven-inning game.
She turned in complete game shutout wins over Fordham and North Texas at the NCAA Stillwater Regional, allowing four hits while striking out 25 and walking only one in her 12.0 innings of work in those two contests.
Elish has posted career numbers on both sides of the ball and earned a spot on the NFCA second team as a pitcher/utility player.
This marks the third NFCA All-America honors of Elish's career and the second time she's been named to its second team.
The graduate senior from Crown Point, Ind., was a three-time selection as Big 12 Pitcher of the Week this season and a two-time selection as Big 12 Player of the Week. She was the only Big 12 student-athlete to be awarded both weekly conference accolades in 2022.
Offensively, Elish has enjoyed the finest offensive season of her career thus far, having set or matched career single-season highs in home runs, runs batted in and walks. In Big 12 play, she ranked in the top 10 in the league in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, RBI and home runs.
In the circle this season, Elish went 13-4, posting a 2.09 ERA. She recorded 128 strikeouts in 104.0 innings pitched. Despite not recording an outing since April 24, she ranked among the top 10 in the Big 12 in ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts, wins, hits allowed and runs allowed. Elish notably recorded two of OSU's three no-hitters in 2022 against Minnesota on March 9 and Wichita State on March 19.
D1Softball also named Maxwell and Elish to its All-America teams today. Maxwell was honored as a first team member, and Miranda was named to the second team.
