Cowgirl Tennis Sweeps West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia – Oklahoma State's 12th-ranked women's tennis team put on a show on Friday afternoon en route to a 7-0 shutout of West Virginia at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.
OSU put together a dominating performance to start off the weekend, picking up its third consecutive road victory to improve to 15-3 on the season and 6-1 in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls extended their winning streak to four after earning their eighth shutout of the season. Additionally, OSU improved to 8-0 all-time against the Mountaineers
The Cowgirls wasted no time in doubles, with Oona Orpana and Martina Zerulo dominating West Virginia's Anastasia Bovolskaia and Tatiana Lipatova, 6-2.
No. 19 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto followed in a similar fashion to secure the doubles point. The Cowgirl pair won five consecutive games, grabbing a 6-2 victory over 68th-ranked Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang.
The Cowgirls carried over their success into singles play, earning three quick points to seal the match. On court two, 39th-ranked Mhai Sawangkaew got things started, controlling her match from wire to wire, extending the OSU lead with a victory over West Virginia's Kendall Kovic, 6-1, 6-2.
Shortly thereafter, Oona Orpana added to the OSU lead on court four. Trailing 4-2, Orpana caught fire, rattling off four-straight games to take the first set. Orpana then quickly finished off Mountaineer Momoko Nagato in the second set to win the match, 6-4, 6-1.
Next, 26th-ranked Lisa Marie Rioux put the Mountaineers out of reach, dominating Anastasia Bovolskaia, 6-0, 6-2.
The remaining matches played out starting with Martina Zerulo improving her singles record to 10-2 on the season and adding another Cowgirl point, prevailing in a hard-fought match against West Virginia's Ting-Pei Chang, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
After a tightly contested first set, Ayumi Miyamoto cruised in set two to pick up a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Sofia Rojas showed resilience after dropping the first set by rallying to dominate the second and winning the match in a third-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2 (10-4), over West Virginia's Camilla Bossi to preserve the Cowgirls shut out.
OSU will face off with Iowa State on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CST) in Ames, Iowa, to close out its weekend road trip.
