Ryan Smeeton Awarded Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Ryan Smeeton has been named Big 12 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Smeeton took gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational, pulling away from a field that included the top four and six of the top nine times in the NCAA. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he finished 2.63 seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 8:34.37, which ranks first in the Big 12 and NCAA and eighth in the world standings. The mark is also currently first amongst Canadians.
Smeeton is a two-time All-American in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, placing second in 2019 and third at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also won the Big 12 Championship in the Steeplechase in 2019 and has accumulated ten All-Big 12 awards during his time with the Cowboys.
The award is OSU's first outdoor and third overall weekly award this season. Isai Rodriguez and Taylor Roe were each named Big 12 Cross Country Runners of the Week after their performances at the Cowboy Jamboree on September 18.
