OSU Sweeps Big 12 Softball Weekly Honors
April 26, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State catcher Julia Cottrill is the Big 12 Player of the Week and Miranda Elish is the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today.
It's the first time Cottrill has been recognized with the honor. For Elish, it's the third time she has secured the recognition.
Currently riding a six-game hitting streak, Cottrill went 5-for-10 with two home runs last week. Both of her homers carried great importance in OSU's series sweep of Texas. In the series opener, she launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Cowgirls to a 3-2 victory. In the series finale, her third inning solo shot was a crucial element in OSU's 2-1 win.
She was equally effective on defense. With Cottrill behind the plate all weekend, the Cowgirl pitching trio of Kelly Maxwell, Elish and Morgan Day combined to post an 0.91 earned run average against the Longhorns.
On the year, Cottrill is batting .320, ties for the team lead with 10 home runs and is second on the team with a .650 slugging percentage.
Elish, meanwhile, was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after holding her former team scoreless on two hits in 6 2/3 innings of work to lead Oklahoma State to an emotional 3-0 win in game two of the Texas series. She struck out 10 and picked up her 10th consecutive win. She also hit a two-run home run in the same game.
Elish has been dominant in the circle in Big 12 play, going 7-0 with a 1.76 earned run average and striking out 52 while walking only nine. She has limited conference opponents to a .184 batting average.
