March 04, 2022 | Cowboy Tennis
Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team ran its win streak to five in a row after a dominating, 6-1 performance against Nebraska-Omaha tonight at the Greenwood Tennis Center.Â
ÂThe Cowboy victory extended their record to 7-5 on the year and 7-2 at home. Notably, freshman Fran Pini tallied another singles win to maintain his undefeated record of 11-0.Â
ÂDoubles play has remained strong for OSU all season and that continued as the Cowboys secured their eighth consecutive doubles point in the matchup. Fran Pini and Leighton Allen rose to the occasion, securing court three in a breeze over Omaha's Ethan Henry and Jacob Weber, 6-1. Play remained back and forth on court two, but Max Verboven and Seb Nothhaft sealed the deal and followed through on a thriller to clinch the point against Todd Chen and Hugo Piles Ballester, 6-4. When play was called, court one was left unfinished, where Seb Nothhaft and Tyler Zink were knotted with Matt Hulme and Mikhail Korkunov, 5-5.Â
ÂThe Cowboys were hot out of the gate in singles, putting on a show across the board on all courts. Alex Garcia picked up right where he left off in doubles, effortlessly downing Mikhail Korkunov, 6-3, 6-1. Max Verboven quickly kept the momentum rolling on court one, dominating Hugo Piles Ballester in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 to extend OSU's overall lead to 3-0.Â
ÂFreshman Fran Pini followed suit and made a statement on court six and marked OSU's third consecutive singles point of the night. Pini rolled in his opening set, 6-2 against Alavaro Quintana and then closed out winning six consecutive games to claim the court, 6-0.Â
ÂWith the match already clinched, the Cowboys and Mavericks played out on the remaining courts.Â
ÂOn court one, Tyler Zink came out swinging, easily dealing a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set loss to Matt Hulme. Sophomore Leighton Allen closed out OSU's final singles point after an absolute thrilling victory over Yashwanth Mylavarapu, 6-1, 6-3. Omaha's only point of the day resulted from court three, where Seb Nothhaft fell to Todd Chen, 6-3, 6-3.Â
