Cowgirl Equestrian Set To Compete at Big 12 Championships

The Basics
No. 1 Oklahoma State equestrian is set to compete at the Big 12 Championship this weekend at Diamond Creek Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cowgirls open with semifinal action Friday at 10 a.m. against Baylor.

The Cowgirls earned the top seed at the tourney, followed by No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Fresno State and No. 4 Baylor. All four squads are ranked in the top 10 of the NCEA rankings: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 4 TCU, No. 6 Baylor and No. 8 Fresno State.

OSU enters the postseason with its best record in program history, 10-2, and has already defeated Baylor twice this season.

The Cowgirls are led by 23rd-year head coach Larry Sanchez, third-year assistants Laura Brainard and Olivia Dorey, and graduate assistant Kaylyn Cole.

• Molly Mitchell: Mitchell continues to have another solid season after going 7-3-1 in Reining. She is undefeated at home after an opening meet against Baylor where she won 70.5-0 in Reining. She secured a career-high, 74-73.5, against Texas A&M, and earned MOP honors vs. TCU and UT Martin.

• Hope King has shown to be a vital rider for the Cowgirls after going 8-3 in Flat and 6-4 in Fences. Earlier this season, King won four consecutive MOP honors. She also earned the match-winning point against No. 1 Auburn when she bested her opponent 80-74 in Flat. Against TCU, she earned the Flat MOP honor after besting her opponent, 87-65.5.

• Against UC Davis, Jojo Roberson won her ride, 75.5-71, in Horsemanship and 69-66.5 in Reining, earning her fifth and sixth MOP honors on the season. She is 8-3 on the season in Horsemanship and 4-4-2 in Reining.

• Sophomore Maddie Fussell started the season with an impressive record of 6-4-1 in Horsemanship. Fussell posted a career high in the first matchup against Fresno State when she bested her opponent, 76-75.5.

• Team captain Katie Pelzel is 8-3-1 on the season, beating her opponent, 87.5-85.5, for a career-high against Fresno State. In her first matchup against TCU, she secured the win with an 87-75.5 victory.

• To begin her senior campaign, Sydnie Ziegler has gone 8-3-1 in Fences and 7-3 in Flat. Against Baylor, Fresno State, and Bridgewater, she won her ride and earned MOP honors in Fences both times. In Flat against UT Martin, she scored a season-high, 87.5-81.5, and recieved MOP honors. Ziegler also earned Big 12 Fences Rider of the Month for February
