Cowboy Tennis Takes Down Tulane, 4-3, To Cap Weekend

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team closed out its undefeated weekend with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Tulane on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Cowboys improved to 10-6 on the year and recorded their third straight road win.

OSU was quick to find its footing in doubles play, while simultaneously collecting its 12th consecutive doubles point of the season in the outing. Court one was first to finish, when Tyler Zink and Seb Nothhaft remained dominant against Benji Jacobson and Charlie Barry, reeling off a 6-3 win. Tulane's Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans evened the field with a quick answer on court two, defeating Seb Nothhaft and Max Verboven, 6-3. OSU's Leighton Allen and Fran Pini prevailed to take court three in dominating fashion, 6-4.

Alex Garcia was the first Cowboy to close out his match in singles play, only dropping a single game in the matchup. Garcia wasted no time in comfortably downing Luc Hoeijmans, 6-1, 6-0, to push OSU to a 2-0 overall advantage.

Leighton Allen and Alex Bancila were back and forth the entirety of play, but Allen eventually fell to Bancila in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, on court five.

The momentum rolled for Tulane to courts three and four. Seb Nothhaft was bested by Luka Petrovic, 6-4, 6-3. Max Verboven fought hard, but eventually came up short against Rafael De Alba, 6-4, 6-3, to give Tulane the upper hand, 3-2.

Tyler Zink rose to the occasion and never faltered on court one. Effortlessly, the junior pulled away to collect a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-3, and provide a crucial singles point to even play, 3-3.

The outcome of the match rested on court six where freshman Fran Pini remained diligent throughout the course of play. Pini came out swinging to put on a show versus Tulane's Charlie Barry, 6-2, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State will continue its road test in Norman for an in-state battle to the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday, April 1.
