Cowboy Tennis Collects Road Win Over No. 39 SMU, 6-1

Dallas, Texas - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team earned its first road win of the season in dominating fashion after defeating No. 39 SMU, 6-1, on Friday evening at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.Â
ÂWith the win, the Cowboys improved to 8-6 on the year. Notably, OSU impressively notched its 10th consecutive doubles point victory in the matchup.Â
ÂThe Cowboys took the advantage early after a competitive doubles matchup. Tyler Zink and Seb Nothhaft took the court against Adam Neff and Ivan Thamma, where the tandem took flight for OSU's first doubles victory of the night, 6-3. SMU's Julian Steinhausen and Huntley Allen answered back for the Mustangs on court three against OSU's Leighton Allen and Fran Pini, 6-3. The point rested on court two, where Max Verboven and Alex Garcia were able to rally after dropping the first two games, 2-0 before claiming the tiebreak to clinch the point, 7-6(4).
ÂThe Cowboys followed their impressive doubles play with an impressive showing in singles action. SMU's sole point from the matchup came from Liam Krall, who bested Seb Nothhaft on court three, 6-3, 6-1.Â
ÂTyler Zink started fast and never looked back to quickly rout SMU's Adam Neff. The Cowboy dealt a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 loss to the Mustang to mark OSU's first singles point victory of the night.Â
ÂNext up, Alex Garcia followed suit and took the court versus Caleb Chakravarthi. The Cowboy wasted no time securing the opening set, 7-5. However, Chakravarthi answered back, sweeping the second set, 6-0. Garcia regained momentum to prevail and close out court two, 6-3, in impressive fashion to give OSU a 3-1 overall advantage.Â
ÂLeighton Allen put on a thrilling performance on court five to take down Ivan Thamma. Allen was able to record four-straight games in the opening set. The sophomore was able to close out a crucial first set victory, 7-6(4). Momentum rolled into the second set, where Allen prevailed to down Thamma, 7-5.Â
ÂAlthough the match was decided, the remaining courts played out.Â
ÂFran Pini was downed in his opening set by Julian Steinhausen on court six. The freshman was able to prevail in back-and-forth second and third sets to complete OSU's fourth consecutive singles point of the night, 6-2, 6-4
ÂMax Verboven and Pranav Kumar were an evenly matched pair the entirety of the dual on court four. Verboven came out swinging, taking the first, 6-4. Kumar regained momentum to claim the second, 7-6(5). Verboven closed out the night cruising to a tiebreak win, 7-6(2).Â
The Cowboys will continue their road swing as they head to New Orleans to face Memphis on March 19Â and Tulane on March 20.Â
