Paving the Way: Tristan Meraut
February 13, 2022 | Cowboy Tennis
Tristan Meraut has not let anything stop him from pursuing his passion since graduating from Oklahoma State.
ÂMeraut, native of Paris, France, attended OSU from 2014 to 2018 where he competed for the Cowboy tennis team.Â
ÂAs he reflected on his time in Stillwater, Meraut credited OSU with many of his fond memories. Meraut recalled some of his favorite parts of competing at the collegiate level.Â
Â"The joy that you give to your teammates, the fans, the crowd when you win a big match," Meraut said. "You know that you made something big for the program when you hit the highest ranking ever by an OSU team."
ÂThat was exactly what Meraut and the Cowboys were able to achieve during the 2016-17 season, reaching No. 4 in the ITA Division 1 team rankings. Along with that historical season, he remembered some of his other favorite memories as a Cowboy.Â
Â"The week when I clinched both Baylor match and Texas match. I think they were three and six in the country and I played at the fifth position and I clinched both of them," Meraut said.Â
ÂAfter departing from Stillwater in May of 2018, Meraut decided to play professional tennis around the world.Â
ÂÂ "I played all over Europe, I went to the African continent, I went to South America and I went as high as 800 ATP," Meraut said.Â
ÂUnfortunately, an injury cut his playing career short, causing him to change course from his original plan.Â
Â"I tried to play pro, and it didn't really work out for me," Meraut said. "I had a bunch of injuries and unfortunately I had an ending injury with a hernia and I wasn't able to be on the court fully healthy so that's when I decided to coach."Â
ÂAfter his professional career came to an end, Meraut was able to land a position at Florida International University, where he currently works as an assistant coach.
Â"Obviously, without playing college tennis and graduating from Oklahoma State, I don't think I would've been able to get to where I am, or as soon as I am doing right now if I was not from such a good program as Oklahoma State."
