Â
The Series
Saturday's game is part of the all-sports Phillips 66 Bedlam Series between Oklahoma State and
Oklahoma. The Phillips 66 Bedlam Series is calculated by straight wins and losses in head-to-head competition. In sports where there is no head-to-head matchup, the Big 12 Championship final standings
are used. Oklahoma State has won the overall Phillips 66 Bedlam Series in eight of the past nine years, and in 2021-22 OSU won by a margin of 17-16. OSU leads the 2022-23 series, 3-1-1. A look at this year's results to date:
Â
Soccer in Norman                                                  T           Tied, 1-1
Big 12 Men's Golf Match Play at Houston, Texas      L           OU, 6-0
Men's Cross Country at Lubbock, Texas                  W          OSU 1st, OU 8th
Women's Cross Country at Lubbock, Texas            W          OSU 1st, OU 5th
Women's Cross Country at Columbia, Missouri        W          OSU 1st, OU 13th
Â
Saturday's game marks the 117th meeting between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, with the series dating to 1904. The 2022 season also marks the 113th consecutive year the teams have met. Oklahoma owns an 89-20-7 advantage in the all-time series and a 43-10-2 lead in Norman.
Â
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State is 7-3 on the year and has extended its school-record streaks of bowl eligibility and winning seasons into a 17th consecutive year. The Cowboys are not eliminated from the Big 12 Championship game but would need to win out and get help in other games to make a return appearance. OSU started the season with a 5-0 record and reached as high as No. 7 in the AP poll, but a double-overtime road loss at still undefeated TCU gave the Cowboys their first setback of the year. They bounced back with a come-from-behind win over then-No. 20 Texas but dropped two straight games on the road before beating Iowa State at home to move into third place in the Big 12 standings. Several players in key starting roles have missed games due to injury or have played at less than 100 percent this season, which was a huge factor in the road slump. The list of players who have missed playing time this season includes quarterback Spencer Sanders, running back Dominic Richardson, wide receivers Braydon Johnson and Jayden Bray, offensive linemen Preston Wilson, Hunter Woodard, Cole Birmingham and Joe Michalski, safeties Sean Michael Flanagan, Thomas Harper and Jason Taylor II, defensive linemen Brock Martin, Tyler Lacy, Trace Ford and Brendon Evers, punter Tom Hutton and Cowboy Back Blaine Green. All have started several games for Oklahoma State. Notably, Sanders returned late in last week's win over Iowa State and played at less than 100 percent to will the Cowboys to a comeback win over the Cyclones and keep OSU's conference title hopes alive. Even with more than its fair share of injuries, the Cowboys have put together a team that ranks No. 24 in the FBS in scoring, No. 20 in passing yards, No. 9 in third down defense, No. 11 in tackles for loss and perhaps most impressively No. 2 in fewest penalties. The standouts in each phase of the game have been Sanders on offense, who leads the Big 12 in total offense and is second in points responsible for, Taylor on defense, who is a semifinalist for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award and ranks No. 6 in the FBS in solo tackles per game, and kicker Tanner Brown on special teams, who is one of just three FBS kickers who has attempted 18 field goals and made more than 90 percent of them.
