Taylor Era Begins With Pair of Victories

Stillwater, Okla. - Making it's debut under the direction of head coach Dustin Taylor, the Oklahoma State men's tennis team produced a pair of victories, defeating Lamar, 6-1, and shutting out Bryant, 7-0, inside the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday.
The Cowboys started the day off with a contest against Lamar, where the doubles point went the way of the Cardinals. Court three was first to finish, where an evenly matched contest featuring OSU's Leighton Allen and Fran Pini fell the way of Lamar's Martin Garcia-Ripoll and Taylor, 7-5. Luke Hammond and Sebastian Nothhaft squared-off against Juan Jose Rodriguez and Daniel Sancho Arbizu with a consistent battle closing in Lamar's favor, 7-6(5). Although the point was decided, court one played out. OSU's Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia won their matchup over Max Amling and Filippo Salsini, 7-6(5).
OSU swept singles play, taking every court to secure their first victory of the season. Sophomore Alex Garcia dominated on court two with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Filippo Salsini. Sebastian Nothhaft then took the momentum to court three against Lamar's Max Amling, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Fran Pini made his singles debut against Joshua Taylor and won in thrilling fashion, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Luke Hammond cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory followed by Leighton Allen on court four. The sophomore delivered against Jose Rodriguez, 6-4, 7-5. On court one, Tyler Zink rounded out the scoring as he defeated Daniel Sancho Arbizu, 7-6(4), 6-1.
The Pokes had a quick turnaround with an avenging contest against Bryant. The doubles point came quickly, the duo of Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia dealt an impressive shutout on court one against Leonardo Mileikowsky and Marcus Maculy, 6-0. Luke Hammond and Sebastian Nothhaft got OSU on the board with a 6-4 victory against Burger and Lorenz. Although the point was decided, Leighton Allen and Fran Pini played out on court three, winning in a thriller against Grant Pertile and Diego Trejo 7-6(4).
In similar fashion, every Cowboy took the first set on their respective courts in singles play. Junior Tyler Zink was quick on court one against Nick Lorenz, 6-2, 6-2. Fran Pini followed closely after on court six against Bulldog Jean Baril, 6-1, 6-3. Leighton Allen wasted no time and took court four against Leonardo Mileikowsky, 6-2, 6-2. Next up, Alex Garcia took control on court two against Teague Burger, 6-4, 6-3.
Luke Hammond closed out the day with a back-and-forth battle on court five. Hammond breezed in the first set, 6-4. Knotted throughout the entirety of the second, the senior came out triumphant 7-6 (13) over Diego Trejo.
Next up, the Cowboys will have their first road test of the year as they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville on Jan. 17.
