LAS VEGAS – Five members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team are set to compete this weekend in Las Vegas at the 19th Annual Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex at UNLV.
Mhai Sawangkaew, Martina Zerulo, Dariya Detkovskaya, Oona Orpana and Sofia Rojas will all be in the field.
After a year off, one of the nation's top individual tournaments returns as players from a select group of elite college programs from across the United States, including Pepperdine, UCLA, Stanford, Florida and UNLV will all be in action.
This year's field is deep, with four teams ranked in the top 20 in the season's initial ITA rankings -- No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 5 UCLA, No. 17 Stanford and No. 20 Florida.
The action begins with doubles each day at 10 a.m. PST, 12 p.m. (CST) on Friday and Saturday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday. This year's Freeman features two flights in singles and one in doubles along with consolation rounds.
In the last event, former Cowgirl Bunyawi Thamchaiwat fell to Stanford's Michaela Gordon in the singles final, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
