Cowgirl Golf Set To Open Season
September 11, 2021 | Cowgirl Golf
Oklahoma State opens 2021-22 season in Denton on Monday
STILLWATER – No. 3 Oklahoma State women's golf will open its fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule on Monday with the Sam Golden Invitational at the Wildhorse Golf Club in Denton, Texas. The 54-hole event will feature 15 teams at the par-72, 6,288-yard layout.
This year's playing field includes Big 12 rivals Oklahoma, Texas Tech, TCU and K-State in addition to Texas A&M, Houston, Mississippi State, Missouri, Purdue, Tulsa, Tulane, Charlotte, UTSA and North Texas.
Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
"It's exciting to get back into the competition after about three months," head coach Greg Robertson said. "We're excited. We have just about everybody back and can't wait to get going again. Especially after the way we finished last year."
The Cowgirl lineup in Denton will feature two honorable mention All-American returners from last season's squad in Isabella Fierro and Rina Tatematsu. The duo will be joined by Kent State transfer Caley McGinty, a two-time All-American and the 2021 Mid-America Conference Golfer of the Year.
Alongside the trio of All-Americans will be Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, who was notably substituted into the OSU lineup after two rounds at the NCAA Stanford Regional and helped the Orange and Black advance thanks to steady rounds of 74 and 71.
Paris native Clemence Martin will round out the Oklahoma State lineup. Martin was the winner of the 2019 French Ladies Amateur Championship and later represented her country at the European Girls' Team Championship in Slovakia.
Lianna Bailey will join the group and compete as an individual. Her 2020-21 scoring average of 72.68 (0.92 to par) was the eighth best in program history. She enters her senior season with 29 career rounds of par or better, which ranks 12th in program history.
"We're just going to approach it like any other tournament," Robertson continued. "It's about being prepared. Going into it with the right attitude and just let them play golf. It's going to be good for us just to see where we're at to start the season. I don't think there is any more importance for this tournament than any other. But again, with such a deep team, it gives us an opportunity to see where we're at with things."
The Cowgirls are coming off one of the best seasons in school history, which included the program's 24th conference title and its first trip to the NCAA Championship title match. OSU notably swept the Big 12 Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year awards and placed three Cowgirls on All-America rosters.
