Cowboys Matched Up With Florida For 2022 Big 12/SEC Challenge

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball team will travel to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators in the ninth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 29, 2022.

Oklahoma State has been one of the best performers in the history of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Cowboys are 6-2, which is second only to Baylor's 7-1 mark for the best record in the event.
OSU has won its last three Challenge games, including last season's 81-77 win over Arkansas, which went on to advance to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cowboys have Challenge wins against Texas A&M (2020), South Carolina (2019, 2013), Arkansas (2020, 2017) and Auburn (2016), but will be meeting the Gators in the Challenge for the first time.
Despite last year's narrow 5-4 setback, the Big 12 has dominated the Challenge with a 4-2-2 record and a 44-35 (.557) overall mark. The Big 12 won the Challenge outright in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019, while the SEC's victories came in 2018 and 2021.
The game will be a homecoming for Cowboy senior Bryce Williams, who grew up 130 miles from Gainesville in Tampa, Florida. Williams played the 2019-20 season at Ole Miss and scored 2 points on 1-of-1 shooting to go with an assist in his lone meeting against Florida on Jan. 14, 2020.
This will be the fourth hardwood meeting between the Cowboys and Gators. Florida took the previous three matchups, which all took place on neutral courts, including a narrow 72-70 loss to the Gators in Sunrise, Florida on Dec. 19, 2015.
The Cowboys are coming off a 2021 campaign that included a 21-9 record, a trip to the Big 12 Championship title game and the program's first NCAA Tournament win since 2009. Head coach Mike Boynton has replaced All-American Cade Cunningham with a trio of talented transfers that has brought OSU's total to two five-star recruits and eight four-star recruits signed since November of 2018.
